HAM RADIO: Building a coaxial magnetic loop antenna, part 2

Image
In part 2 of this magnetic loop antenna project, Mike (M0MSN) completes the capacitor and other additions to properly tune the antenna. Mike also outlines the safety and rf exposure precautions necessary to test the project. If you can't see the video, please go here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9kJzh1_alk4 Here are some comments from Mike (M0MSN): So much to do, the construction of a Mag Loop.. Its all been none stop over the past month or two... let me know in the comments below what you want to see me build and I will try to do it. :) This upload is all about building a MagLoop (Magnetic Loop Antenna) its been a long time in the making but has proven to be worth the wait. this is part 2 of a 2 part upload, in this part I will list all the parts and measurements you will need to copy the antenna you see here.. 5M of 22mm Copper Pipe 1M of 15mm Copper Pipe 4 x 22mm straight connectors 2 x 22mm elbows 2 x 15mm elbows 4 x 15mm straight connectors 60 cm of M5 treaded bar Pack

HAM RADIO: Building a coaxial magnetic loop antenna, part 1

Here's a nice magnetic loop antenna project from Mike (M0MSN). In part 1, Mike takes us step-by-step in designing and building the loops needed for this antenna.  In part 2, Mike will build the capacitor to help tune the antenna. If you can't see the video, please go here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TR7dHQ1fVgo Here are some comments from Mike (M0MSN): Building a Double Coax MagLoop Part 1, why part one well that's because I need to buy a Air spaced Capacitor or make one! So this upload is all about the making of the double loop. it is a simple job but you will need some spacers and a lot of time to get it right. there is NO set diameter for the loops I decided on 1M in diameter and ended up with 94cm but it still works so!!! Parts: 6M of ridged Coax ( something like Andrew Heliax) 15mm 4 spacers (I printed these but you can use PVC Pipe) Variable Air Capacitor to finish the job To get notified of the next upload .click that bell and subscribe.. Cheers Mike M0MS

DX Commander Classic assembly, installation & testing

Image
Thanks to Bob (K6UDA) for this comprehensive discussion of the popular DX Commander HF Antenna from Callum (M0MCX). Bob takes us through the assembly, installation, and testing of this excellent multiband antenna system. If you can't see the video, please go here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcPMMejp4WQ Thanks for joining us today. Aloha es 73 de Russ (KH6JRM). Here are some comments from Bob (K6UDA): Last fall I purchased a DX Commander Classic for use in Studio A. Then winter hit the Southern Idaho Command with a vengeance and soon the permafrost was upon me. Now, the snow is gone, its 65 degrees out and its time to build that DX Commander. Show Notes: Join Me every Monday at Noon Mountain Time (1800 UTC) for lunch & ham radio. I'll bring in short subjects that we can dive in and look at, you can bring up subjects to discuss. Ham Radio: Antenna For a Small Space

Image
Thanks to Tim (G5TM) for these great antenna ideas for small urban lots.  A good, basic resonant dipole antenna can be used on a small lot or other restricted space with a little bit of planning. If you can't see the video, please go here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LgUJJqkmfh8 Here are some comments from Tim (G5TM): How to fit a dipole into a small garden/yard space. HF Wire Antenna: Setup How-To for Portable Operations

Image
There are several ways to set up your portable or emergency HF antenna.  In this video, Adam (K6ARK) shows us how to deploy a field expedient antenna in a matter of minutes. If you can't see the video, please go here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xL_YKpRdgQg Here are few comments from Adam (K6ARK): There are many strategies for setting up wire antennas for portable HF operation. Heres mine. Find my antenna matching units at https://www.k6ark.com . If you're looking for those little S-clips: https://amzn.to/3JQfh0Y (affiliate link) Most areas I operate lack trees, so the easiest way to get a wire in the air is to use a telescopic pole. I've developed a solid strategy for setup that I share in this video. if you've got a method you like better, tell us about it in the comments below. Thanks, and I'll see you on the next adventure. ----- Thanks for joining us today. Aloha es 73 de Russ (KH6JRM).

Field Expedient Long-Wire Antenna
