I've always liked full-wave horizontal HF loop antennas.  While these antennas occupy a lot of space and need some height to work well, they deliver quiet receiving and a modest amount of gain over a conventional dipole. The 160-meter Amateur Radio Band provides lots of excitement when the "Top Band" is open.  Unfortunately, the size and length of 160-meter antennas often make  this band unusable for many radio amateurs.
