Building Beach Antennas for Ham Radio

Thanks to Walt (K4OGO) for this interesting, somewhat curious HF antenna that is more powerful than you think.

The key to the outstanding success of this otherwise normal vertical antenna is its proximity to the ocean and its moisture-laden sandy beach.  This combination makes for an excellent ground, which most 1/4 wavelength vertical antennas need for maximum efficiency.

Walt does an excellent job of blending antenna theory with practical applications in designing an antenna which produces excellent DX contacts.
