Feedline CAT-5 Survival Antenna

Image
If you need an emergency or survival antenna, please try this idea from Brett of the "Survival Comms" video channel. Brett shows us how commonly available CAT-5 feedline can be used as part of a field expedient antenna.  Make one of these DIY (do-it-yourself) antennas for your Amateur Radio "Go-Kit." If you can't see the video, please go here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bolqLF9QqFU Here are some comments from Brett: Longer than my usual content as there is a lot to cover in creating your own RF transmission line. In this video we discuss making your own transmission (antenna, feed) line out of field expedient materials. Materials , formulas and whatnot. Give this a try - what you carry in your head will carry the day. #survivalcomms #survivalantennas #twistedpairfeedline ----- Thanks for joining us today. Aloha es 73 de Russ (KH6JRM).

Broadband Terminated Dipole Antenna for ALE CHA TD

Image
Thanks to Julian (OH8STN) for this excellent presentation about Broadband Terminated Dipole Antennas.  Although these antennas have definite military and government applications, they can be used successfully for Amateur Radio operations. If you can't see the video, please go here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUFgLqEmCBY Here are some comments from Julian (OH8STN): LE stands for Automatic Link Establishment. It's a voice and data mode system especially useful for establishing phone or real-time messaging on HF between two stations, or from the single station to a group or network of stations. its primary role is emergency communications. One of the features of automatic link establishment, either with embedded ALE, PC-ALE, or MARS-ALE, is its constant scanning of bands and channels on HF. Because of this, a specialized tuner or an antenna which requires no tuner, should be used. In this case, I'm using the Chameleon CHA TD Broadband Terminated Dipole Antenna. I've

If you live in deed-restricted housing, you may find this unusual antenna from "Rich Rodgers Online" (WB5YBZ) another way of getting and staying on air. Rich was successful in modifying his home gutter system to work several HF Ham Radio bands. If you can't see the video, please go here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MuEdsK8q_jU Here are some comments from Rich: Using and Icom IC 7300 the antenna is the gutter. If you live in deed-restricted housing (HOA/CC&Rs), indoor antennas may be the only way to get on the air. In this video, Dave Casler (KE0OG) explores several ideas for effective indoor antennas.  Experiment with these ideas and see what works best for you. If you can't see the video, please go here" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bxq1xhu4mLI Here are some comments from Dave (KE0OG): Peirre, KM4WSJ, lives in Florida and is often victim to powerful lightning and thunder storms and is forced to disconnect his antenna. His question to Dave, Can you recommend a homebrew antenna that I could use indoors and could switch from the outdoor to the indoor during thunderstorms?
