Giant Slinky Antenna-Having Fun on the HF Bands.

If you have an old metal "slinky" toy around your house or apartment, why not convert it into a HF vertical helix antenna for your next POTA/SOTA or field operation?

Armed with a wide-range antenna "tuner", sufficiently tall fishing pole/pvc telescoping mast, and some speaker wire for a ground radial system, you can experiment to your heart's content with an antenna that is fairly cheap and lightweight.

For the best performance, you may want to feed this antenna with 450-ohm ladder line.

Walt (K4OGO) takes through the entire design, construction, testing, and on-air use procedures.
