Windom Antenna

If you want to experiment with a fascinating HF antenna, then try this modified "Windom" design from Stan Gibilisco (W1GV). This design is based on the pioneering efforts of General Loren Windom (W8GZ), Howard Williams (W9BXQ), John Byrne (W8DKZ) back in the 1920s.  The "Windom" has proven to be one of favorite "classic" HF antennas used by radio amateurs. Is the J-Pole the ultimate 10 meter band vertical antenna?

Image
Although I've used J-Pole antennas for the 2m/70cm amateur radio bands, I've never explored their usefulness on the 10 meter band. This video from Michael Martens (KB9VBR) has changed my mind. In this video, Michael discusses the pros and cons of this simple, effective vertical antenna.  Michael feels the J-Pole may be the "ultimate" vertical antenna for the 10 meter band. If you can't see the video, please insert this title URL into your browser search box:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZv94BvNxrQ. Here are some comments from Michael (KB9VBR): was looking for a powerhouse antenna for the ARRL 10 meter contest. Will the J-Pole vertical antenna pull in the DX?
