W3EDP Multi-band Antenna--Did it vanish or evolve?

Image
One of my favorite multiband HF antennas is the "classic" W3EDP design from H. J. Siegal (W3EDP).  Siegal discussed his experiments in the March 1936 edition of "QST." Since that time, this antenna has evolved into many forms which are popular today for both portable and home station use. In this video from Peter Waters (G3OJV), we see how the original W3EDP was made and how it changed over the decades. If you can't see the video, please insert this title URL into your browser search box:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBe-SZXXh0Y Here are some comments from Peter (G3OJV): The W3EDP Antenna was conceived in 1936. Over the years the design has changed. Watch the Video and decide for yourself, the answer to the question - Vanished or Evolved? ----- Thanks for joining us today. Aloha es 73 de Russ (KH6JRM).

Incredible long wire end fed antenna--amazing results!

Image
On your next portable operation, please try this intriguing receive antenna discussed by Callum (M0MCX). Properly installed, long wire receive antennas can deliver some truly amazing results.  In this video, Callum tests his long wire end fed antenna and reports significant gain performance over standard dipole antennas. Adapting this design for transmitting involves a lot of challenges, which should be reserved for the future.  Antennas such as Callum's are direct descendants of the "classic" Beverage Antenna which appeared in the early 1920s.  Why not build this project and see what it can do? If you can't see the video, please insert this title URL into your browser search box:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkXLJ-bslns Here are some comments from Callum (M0MCX): Full Demo! Fantastic bit of science here - you will love it. I predicted some good receive ability - but I wasn't prepared for this. What else can we do to improve it again? Maybe we should transmit

Dual Band 20m/40m Vertical Antenna You Can Make

Image
Here's a very useful antenna idea from Peter Waters (G3OJV). In this video, Peter shows how to design, build, test, and use a dual-band 20meter/40meter Vertical Antenna.  The antenna uses locally available materials and some items from your ham radio "junk box." The antenna is easy to erect and take down, making it ideal for small gardens or otherwise restricted urban lots. If you can't see the video, please insert this title URL into your browser search box:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=452utfH4yl8 Here are some comments from Peter (G3OJV): Here is a simple antenna you can make from wire that covers the two bands 20m and 40m. Thanks for joining us today. 73 es Aloha de Russ (KH6JRM).

Simple, stealthy, multi-band vertical DX antenna

Image
If you need an easily deployable, stealthy DX antenna, please try this design from Tim (G5TM).  I've built several of these antennas, and they work well, despite some loss of efficiency. If you can't see the video, please insert this title URL into your browser search box:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6bcmSreFSk Here are some comments from Tim (G5TM): Just one 4 or 7 metre long vertical wire fed at the base with a remote tuner and a decent, easy to transport, ground system. A good idea for a quick to erect and remove portable and/or low profile antenna for stealthy home installations. Cheap compact 160m Antenna ideas

Image
Here are some great ideas for 160m antennas for radio amateurs who lack space for a full "top band" antenna. Callum (M0MCX) discusses slopers, inverted Ls, compact dipoles, and loaded verticals. If you can't see the video, please insert this title URL into your browser search box:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJZKYl3T-aM Here are some comments from Callum (M0MCX): I need a 160m Antenna. Let's look at Inverted L, Sloper, Loaded Vertical a Compact Dipole and the Halo (loop). Let us consider the problem, walk the area and discuss how each would work. Balcony Antenna Possibilities (#674)

Image
Here's another antenna solution for radio amateurs living in deed-restricted spaces.  In this video, David Casler (KE0OG) shows how an apartment balcony can support a variety of antennas.  None of these antennas is especially efficient, but they will get you on the air. If you can't see the video, please insert this title URL into your browser search box:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pBQf4yW6H0   Here are some comments from David (KE0OG); Paul, KC9FHV, is a newbie to the OG community and is close to completing his General Exam. Congradulations. And he is hoping to begin on the ham bands, but is place in a very straining location where he only has his balcony to use for his antenna/s.
