Image
If you need a simple, effective 20 meter antenna for portable or emergency use, then this moxon design from Chuck (KK6USY) is what you want. Chuck takes us step by step throught he design, building, testing, and use of this versatile HF antenna. If you can't see the video, please insert this title URL into your browser search box:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gHY1b4pauk Here are some comments from Chuck (KK6USY): The Moxon is one of the Best portable Gain antennas and easy to make! In this video I show how I made a 20 meter Moxon Antenna for portable operation like POTA or SOTA. Yea I know SOTA might be a stretch for most of us! If you make this antenna for home use, I would beef up the base plate and use a heavier gauge wire 18 -12awg. Also look into some heavier duty fiberglass supports for the spreaders. Building a short 40m antenna with coil and AT-271 whip

Image
If you have access to a TRC-372 manpack radio and its antenna accessories, you'll have a nearly perfect portable HF system. In this video from Gil ("Radio Prepper" video channel), we see how a coil and an AT-271 whip can make an excellent choice for field or emergency operations. As Gil relates, this experiment had some issues, especially with the construction of the coil. If you can't see the video, please insert this title URL into your browser searchbox:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8TO2O2KOn4 Here are some comments from Gil: Things did not work as expected with this great design by VA3TNE on Thingiverse. The coil is used with an AT-271 military antenna whip, 3D printed and tested here with my TRC-372 manpack radio at the Col de Vence North of Nice. Maybe someone more experienced with coils could shed some light on the issue... STL 3D files: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:235... Experimenting with a Loop On The Ground Receiving Antenna

If you live in a high noise area, this Loop On The Ground Receive Antenna from Kevin Loughin (KB9RLW) should interest you. Kevin experiments with several designs and suggests way to reduce the noise picked up by your antennas. If you can't see the video, please insert this title URL into your browser search box:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0WvIxoU0LI Here are some comments from Kevin (KB9RLW): I spent some time exploring this low noise receiving antenna concept and tried a variation on it by lifting it slightly off the ground. How to reengineer a commercial 5/8 wave CB antenna for the 10 Meter Amateur Radio Band. "Ianxfs" takes us step-by-step through the design, reconfiguration, construction, and testing of an adapted CB antenna dedicated to the 10 Meter Band. If you can't see the video, please check insert this title URL into your browser search box:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eboJV6rY4a4 Here are some comments from "Ianxfs": Further development of a design from the website below where a commercial 5/8ths wave CB antenna is reverse engineered. This enhanced model is tuned specifically for the 10m amateur band and also adopts a ferrite choke, which is an improved option over the air-wound choke which is also shown in the build. The parts for this simple DIY build probably already exist in your shack? If not, they come to about £5 for the air-wound choke model, or about £10 if you go for the ferrite choke model. A list of parts: Main Antenna = 3.5m RG58 coax + 3.25m of insulat
