Best Random Wire Antenna Lengths

Image
Random length end-fed antennas are simple, effective HF antennas if you calculate the proper wire length, use a wide-ranging antenna transmatch (i.e. "tuner"), and employ a proper  counterpose system. Mike Markowski (AB3AP) does an excellent job of explaining both the theory and practice behind random length end-fed antennas.  If you're in an experimental mood, you may want to try the 1936 end-fed "zepp" antenna from H. J. Siegal (W3EDP). BuddiHex Antenna is a winner! ARRL Field Day 2022

Image
The annual ARRL Field Day is a perfect time to test new antenna designs and operational procedures. In this video, Josh Nass (KI6NAZ) tests the "BuddiHex Antenna" in an actual field day environment. If you can't see the video, please insert this title URL into your browser search box:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecMC8oIHMYc Here are a few comments from Josh (KI6NAZ): 9,686 views Premiered Jun 28, 2022 Field Day is a great time to shake out antenna systems and see which ones are worth the time and money. This year, I got to deploy the BuddiHEX with very little prior experience. Going so far that my first assembly was done on the Field Day site. Spoiler Alert: What a fantastic antenna! Tape measure EFHW portable QRP antenna, part 2

Image
In this video, Paul (OM0ET) tests his tape measure EFHW antenna in a nearby forest.  Construction of this antenna was done in part one of this series. If you can't see the video, please insert this title URL into your browser search box:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7O6hOuRixQ Here are some comments from Paul (OM0ET): This is a following video of an experiment https://youtu.be/pEI5K-j1Koo where I used a Tape Measure as an antenna. In this video I was testing this antenna in the forest with a new Xiegu X6100 transceiver and an antenna analyser Mini 1300. Tape measure EFHW portable QRP antenna, part 1

Image
Your next HF portable antenna may be as close as your tool box. In this video, Paul (OM0ET) uses a common steel tape measure to make a simple, effective End Fed Halfwave HF antenna for portable or emergency use.  This is part 1 of a two-part series. In part 2, Paul (OM0ET) tests the antenna and finds it performs very well in a portable operation. If you can't see the video, please insert this title URL into your browser search box:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEI5K-j1Koo Here are some comments from Paul (OM0ET): I had an idea to try to use the tape measure as an antenna :) I decided to do this experiment, despite I am not sure if the steel is material good enough for the antenna purposes. The cost of all components used for this project did not exceed 20€. In the next video, I would like to test this antenna if it works or not, so I am very curious :D LINK TO PART 2 - TESTING: https://youtu.be/J7O6hOuRixQ - similar steel 50m Tape Measure: https://www.thetapestore.co.uk/fis

Is this the best portable multiband HF Antenna?

Image
Thanks to Mat of the "TechMinds Amateur Radio Channel" for this simple, multiband portable antenna. With a good antenna transmatch (i.e. "tuner"), a suitable balun, a length of coaxial cable, and a random length wire, the End Fed Halfwave Antenna provides good performance both at your home station and in the "field." If you can't see the video, please insert this title URL into your browser search box:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmpREgqCqyU Here are some comment from Mat: Here we take a look at a lightweight, multiband, portable HF Antenna that weighs 160 grams!
