Thanks to Pityu Nagy for this beautiful, efficient, and effective antenna for 145 MHz.  This 2 meter antenna should give you about 3dB gain over a 1/4 wave length vertical antenna and considerably more gain over the "rubber duck" (stock) antenna that came with your HT.

Here are some of Pity's observations:

"A 5/8 wave J-pole antenna, that I made from copper tubing, a piece of steel wire from a mobile CB antenna, and other stuff. Works very well, has a SWR of 1.2-1. And also what I like about it, is that I can earth it at the bottom, so it's "lightning protected". 73!"
